On a night of seismic importance in the context of the season, they stepped up and delivered a statement performance which emphatically lifted the dark clouds of misery which have shrouded the past month.

Jürgen Klopp's reaction when Roberto Firmino opened the scoring deep into first half stoppage-time said everything about how much he and his players needed this. He was delighted, of course, but mainly he was relieved. It's been a rough ride these past few weeks, but Liverpool may just have come through the worst of the storm.
